How to buy a Cooking Range / Oven/ Stove

Buying an oven depends greatly on your cooking habits, the space of your kitchen and your energy source.

•  Consider your cooking habits. Do you often cook for a large number of people or just for a few people? If you don't really cook for many people, then, a basic range could be enough. Or if you are the type who cooks intricate dishes or often holds parties in your house, then, you might want to invest in a heavy duty cooking range to give you the convenience.

•  Consider the size of your kitchen. On the size of your kitchen, make sure that there would be enough space and ventilation to compensate the heat that your stove might emit. If your kitchen space is small and you have a large oven, then it might not be comfortable to cook in your kitchen.

•  Consider the energy source that you want to use or have. Do you prefer an electric or a gas range? If you live in a condominium, check with your building administrator the allowed type of cooking appliance. Electric stoves might be more expensive if you cook more frequently because you already consume electricity while waiting for the burner to heat up. However, if you opt for a gas range, make sure that there is an LPG or gas supplier nearby to save you the hassle of traveling before you can buy an LPG or having additional delivery charges.

Below are two quick guides on the type of range that you need. Use the table below to make a good decision:

Cooking habit
Family Size
Kitchen
Cooking range type
Price range
3 times a day 2 to 4 members Corridor 2 burner gas or electric Under 10,00
5 to 6 members Corridor, L-shaped 3 burner gas w/ electric grill 10,000 to 200,000
  2 to 4 members Corridor, L-shaped, U-shaped 3 burner gas w/ electric grill 10,000 to 200,000
  5 to 6 members Corridor, L-shaped, U-shaped 3 burner gas w/ electric wok over 20,000
  2 to 4 members Corridor, L-shaped,U-shaped 3 burner gas w/ electric wok over 20,000
5 to 6 members Corridor, L-shaped,U-shaped, island 3 burner gas w/ electric wok

Consideration #2: After determining the size that you need, choose the type of washing machine that you want. Choose a washing machine that allows you to adjust the water temperature and spin speed. This is to allow you to care for different types of fabric and ensure that they are cleaned properly. It would also help if a machine will let you soak your clothes so you won't have to soak your clothes in a basin or sink.

Consideration #3: You should also consider the water consumption. There are models that will allow you to recycle water and those that will allow you to wash using smaller amounts of water, thus, help you save on water. In addition, since washing clothes involves water, make sure that the machine is made of rust free materials to prolong its life.
